The Reality Check Episode 47

TAM7 + Adam Savage Interview + Twitter Popularity

The Amazing Meeting 7
 Part 1:
What is TAM7?
The Amazing Meeting 7(TAM7) is a convention for skeptics and critical thinkers. They all come together and have a convention every year. Almost every year that have really famous skeptics and really incredible people. They mentioned a lot of names I have never heard of, if you would like to know, you may go on The Reality Check website and listen to episode 47.
So, this is what the meeting is basically about: People show up early for registration, and there are workshops there already for people to attend. Those workshops sometimes include skeptical investigation and similar activities. In 2009, there was a investigation on medicine; and according to the Reality Check, it was very fascinating.
You get people like Brian Brushwood, who is a magician, who shows up there to perform. The Reality Check skeptics interviewed him.
Then the next day, the convention officially starts. Everyone crowds into the grand ballroom to listen to presentations. They have different lectures from different people.
Then the next day is just party!
After that day, you have paper presentations from non-celebrity skeptics. This is when you get a variety of topics and extremely interesting stuff. Things such as explaining the magnets don't make wine old faster. There are people who said that they will offer anyone 1 million dollars if they can prove that scientifically that they have any kind of paranoia ability.
So, someone challenged. The experiment went like this: You have 10 envelopes, and you get one card in each envelope from ace to 10. All the cards are all the same pattern, the envelopes are double-layered, and they are randomized some way. So, the person has to guess the number 3 times.
In the end, the challenger failed. But, we all have to admit that she was very brave coming up doing it. In the end, she did what every "psychic" would say, that the force isn't helping her that time.

Adam Savage
Part 2:
Interview with Adam Savage, who is an American industrial design and special effects designer/fabricator, actor, educator, and co-host of the Discovery Channel television series MythBursters. Adam has been involved in MythBusters since its creation. His role in the show is to either disprove or reveal myths or confirm them through a series of different scales of tests and experiments. If the myth is about a one time occurrence and not about whether or not something can happen at all, it is often deemed plausible instead.
